It turns out the battle royale genre isn't going anywhere, as Respawn Entertainment's latest release Apex Legends was an instant success, hitting one major milestone after the other in its first few days. First we heard it reached a million players in eight hours, with this number increasing to 2.5 million in 24 hours, and yesterday Respawn CEO Vince Zampella took to Twitter to share his thanks for hitting 10 million players in the game's first 72 hours. No doubt an impressive feat.
Apart from that huge number, he also shared another one - Apex Legends has already breached one million concurrent players, again up from the 600,000 mark that we'd heard of before at the 24 hour milestone.
Zampella started out by talking about the game's unconventional launch. "We knew it would be risky to take the franchise in this direction, to go free to play, and do a surprise launch. But we fell in love with Apex Legends and wanted, needed, other people to play it too," he said.
He continued with a heartfelt thank you from the team, adding: "We hoped you'd love it as much as us, but never in our wildest dreams could we have expected the outpouring of support and positivity we've seen. From all of us at Respawn, thank you for giving us and Apex Legends a chance. Thank you for joining us on this journey. This is just the beginning! We have so much more in store for you this year."
If you want even more in the Titanfall universe we should remind you that Respawn is "working on more Titanfall for later in the year", but for now if you need any tips on how to succeed you might want to watch our gameplay where we get a few wins.
