This summer has been absolutely brutal when it comes to the weather much of Europe has been experiencing. While many countries are experiencing devastating wildfires due to the exceptional dry conditions and high heats, for the United Kingdom, it's mostly just the former.
In late July, much of the country was declared to be in drought, something farmers began warning would lead to a poor harvest and lower food stockpiles throughout the winter, but in the days that have followed, the conditions have only worsened.
According to BBC News, the National Drought Group is set to convene on Monday afternoon to share their latest assessment on the state of the country. It's expected even more regions will soon be declared in drought as well, building on around half of the nation receiving the categorisation a couple of weeks prior.
As it stands, looking solely at England, only two regions did not receive a drought or "prolonged dry weather" analysis in late July, with the majority being tagged the former. This meeting will likely expand this categorisation, and the harrowing thing is the conditions aren't expected to change anytime soon either, as dry and warm weather is forecast in the immediate future for much of the UK. In fact, the country is about to experience another heatwave, with temperatures expected in the mid-to-high 30s on Thursday.
