Yakuza: Like a Dragon coming to the West next year

It'll launch in Japan on January 16, reinvigorating the series with a new protagonist, location, and combat system.

Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have revealed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon (known up until now as Yakuza 7, and called Ryu Ga Gotoku 7 in Japan) will be releasing in Japanese PS4s on January 16, with the Western launch planned for the same year.

Kazuhiro Nakaya will voice protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, which is the first time a new main hero has been introduced in a Yakuza game. He's a low-level yakuza member looking to prove his worth, and his rise is called a "modern human drama" in the press release.

What's more is the announcement also calls it a "complete reimagining of the franchise, a landmark to coincide with the series' 15th anniversary". As part of this, Yokohama is a new area to explore, and combat has moved to a turn-based RPG battle system for the first time as well.
