Bloodborne will be less punishing

"We don't want to focus on punishing the player," says Yamagiwa.

Bloodborne is the new game by From Software (Dark Souls) and it's heading exclusively to PlayStation 4. The studio are famed for creating brutally-tough RPGs, but by the sounds of it, their new game will be softened up slightly in order to bring in a bigger audience.

"In terms of who the game is aimed at, and who we want to capture in terms of the audience, obviously we can't betray or disappoint the fans out there," producer Masaaki Yamagiwa said at Gamescom (and via VG247).

"They're very, very important. They'll be the main ambassadors of the game." However, he was keen to stress that "we do want more people to share in this experience."

"You died a lot in the previous games, and you had to persevere, but one of our main goals with this game is that we don't want to focus on punishing the player," he said later on.

"We want to deliver a game that gamers love. If the gamer likes the game they'll definitely like it enough to have that bit of perseverance, but the way in which we're making the game? The sense of punishment is much less."

Yamagiwa also mentioned a "new online concept and experience" saying that it "will capture a wider audience." Sadly he wasn't able/willing to explain those comments further. Check out the Gamescom trailer below to see the game in action. We think it looks rather good.
