The first proper look at the Tardis for the upcoming virtual reality title Doctor Who: The Edge of Time has been revealed in a teaser trailer dropped yesterday, which you can see below for a taste at how Maze Theory and Playstack's game recreates the iconic spaceship.

Maze Theory went to the set of Doctor Who in Wales to photograph the police box thoroughly. After this, a technique known as photogrammetry was used to create an almost-perfect scale replica by using the photos taken and analysing them. By going through this tremendous effort and taking over 1,200 hours, Maze Theory has been able to include every nook and cranny of the space vessel, bringing precise functionality of the controls, true to the show, even including the notorious custard cream dispenser.

"The Tardis is a very important and hugely iconic element of the show and Doctor Who: The Edge of Time offers the chance to experience it like never before," said Marcus Morseby, creative Director at Maze Theory. "It's been a huge undertaking to deliver the very best Tardis experience and is much anticipated by the fans of the show. We know they're going to love it."

Aside from the police box, Doctor Who: The Edge of Time will also see Jodie Whittaker reprise her role as the Doctor herself. What's more is that, in an IP first, you will be the co-pilot of the Tardis as you travel across the expansive Doctor Who universe. Alongside this, the game will feature its own unique title sequence, designed specifically for this game, further adding to the authenticity of the VR experience.

This collaboration between BBC Studios and Maze Theory will be available to check out in even further detail at this year's San Diego Comic-Con event, where fans will be the first in the US to play the upcoming VR title. As for when Doctor Who: The Edge of Time is set for release, it will launch on HTC Vive Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, and PSVR in September.

What do you think of Maze Theory's recreation of the Tardis?
