Respawn was at EA Play to showcase a second title, Apex Legends, revealing new modes, a new character, a new weapon, and a fresh approach for the battle royale shooter's second season. The studio also spent some time discussing an event running until June 18, called The Legendary Hunt.
The new Apex Elite Queue is a playlist that the top five players from any match will get limited time access to. There are also challenges to earn exclusive weapons and gear, with additional items for Battle Pass owners to unlock, and there's a double XP event running until June 9.
The main event, however, was the fact that we got the first details surrounding the game's second season.
Season 2 is due to start on July 2 and it's called Battle Charge. At launch, we'll be getting a new legend, and a new weapon (a fully automatic rifle called the L-Star that Titanfall players might well remember - apparently it's so over-powered it's only available via care packages). We didn't get many details but we can also expect a new way to play the game, a map event, and some general gameplay tweaks.
Notably, the studio outlined a renewed approach to the game's season pass, and they're looking to bulk out the offering this time around. Based on community feedback, Respawn has made some changes as now it's challenge-based, which should mean for much faster levelling.
We also got to see the new so-called legend being added to the game: Wattson. This new character is built to aid more conservative players with some electric new moves that should help with any coordinated team's defensive game. Wattson's announcement trailer also revealed an emotionally-driven backstory, which you can see below.
