Jagex will no longer be supporting RuneScape Classic starting August 6, 2018, when the studio will take its servers offline, which will be more than 17 years after its original release.

In a farewell letter developers explain "our tools are no longer compatible with Classic", which also means some security issues and greater bug risk, while both the main RuneScape and its Old School version will keep getting support and take advantage of new technologies.

The post is full of memories and nostalgia, as the original code has been playable for years. Some players have been playing a lot as of late too, so much that "some of you have even managed to reach max total", which says something about its legacy.
