Respawn outlines philosophy for Apex Legends Battle Pass

Some players are disappointed with the Battle Pass rewards for Season 1, and Respawn has clarified their decisions online.

Apex Legends Season 1 has only just dropped with new character Octane, bringing with it a Battle Pass full of rewards, but as evident from Reddit some users aren't too happy about the rewards on offer with the Pass.

One criticism of the Battle Pass is that there's a badge with a number on every five levels, while another pointed out that people wanted character skins, weapon skins, and banners rather than stats, XP rewards, and intros. Essentially, a lot of people wanted more enticing rewards for leveling up, which of course led to comparisons with Fortnite's own Battle Pass.

This has prompted developer Respawn to respond and clarify their philosophy for Season 1's Battle Pass, which is "about keeping it focused and allowing players to earn a lot of rewards at a great value (you even get the cost of the base Battle Pass back if you reach level 97). We'll begin adding more and more innovations each season, as we evolve the Battle Pass."

Respawn clarifies that this Battle Pass is still aimed at letting people learn and experiment, and the quests aren't too complex for that very reason. Simplicity is the goal, and there's plenty of space to explore in future Battle Passes, but for now all of the rewards in the Wild Frontier Pass are exclusive to this season.

In terms of the progression bonus, this is tied to playing a number of characters because "true mastery in Apex Legends means being a badass with anyone in any situation at any time." With Octane included as a new Legend too, that's a new challenge for players to face.

"In terms of rewards, we've tried to create a Battle Pass where first-time spenders can get a strong base of weapon and character cosmetics to fill out their initial collection at a deep discount," Respawn adds. "In addition, we've included our first ever three-stage evolving Legendary Havoc weapon skin (for veterans who are looking for the new hotness), as well as Epic and Legendary Apex Packs. These rewards are all in addition the 1,000 Apex Coins you can earn through the Battle Pass, which you can put towards unlocking the next Battle Pass."

To conclude the post reassures fans once more that the Battle Pass can and will change in future iterations, and that feedback is always welcome as they move into future seasons with more content.
