Overwatch League will introduce new Flashpoint game mode a month before Playoffs

It'll be used in competitive play 15 days after its launch.
Ben Lyons Senior Editor 20 June 2023

The one benefit of Overwatch 2's new live service model that introduces content more frequently is that it allows the Overwatch League to use new maps, Heroes, and balance updates much quicker. Beforehand, it used to take months for the OWL to catch up with the actual patch cycle and often it would become outdated soon after, but this is not the case anymore. However, it also means that professionals get less time to prepare with the new additions before using them on the main stage, as will be the case for the new and upcoming game mode, Flashpoint.

As noted in a recent Watchpoint desk segment, it was mentioned that Flashpoint will make its debut in the OWL a month before the Playoffs start, and will first arrive as a competitive addition on August 25, only 15 days after it launches in the live game on August 10.

There's no word as to whether Flashpoint will replace an existing game mode used in the League or if it will be used as a replacement for any modes that are used multiple times in one match.

Do you think this is too soon to add a new mode to competitive play?
