Overruled! to hit Early Access, maybe X1, PS4 & Wii U

We talk to Dlala Studios about their upcoming 2D arena fighting game.
Mike Holmes 16 May 2014

Craig Thomas and AJ Grand-Scrutton from Dlala Studios talk us through Overruled!, the multiplayer platform fighting game where the rules are constantly changing.

We played the game (and lost horribly, we should add) but the appeal of this kind of local competitive experience was immediately obvious. We asked whether the game might make an appearance online:

AJ told us: "Right now it's purely local... Our worry is right now is, it's a very fast game and if there's even a slight amount of lag it's going to have such a negative impact. So the way we're focussing is: let's get a perfect local experience. If we can do online without lag, fantastic, we'll get it in there, but I would rather produce this perfect local game, rather than hinder it with a substandard online mode."

(Update: After this interview went live, Dlala got in touch to let us know that online is definitely happening.)

We also asked what the plan was looking ahead, to which AJ answered: "This is a game for us, we made a game that we want to play. So there's lots more cards, features, all this stuff we want to get in so that we have a perfect experience. Really we're going to go Early Access, get out new content every couple of weeks is the game plan, hopefully bring it to the consoles around September/October time. But we've got a roadmap that could last us forever."

And which platforms will the game be heading to? "There's a high chance we'll be getting it out on Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U," was the answer we received.

Overruled! was recently snapped up by Team 17, who'll be publishing the game on PC (via Steam Early Access) in the coming weeks, and presumably on the consoles mentioned during the interview later on in the year. We look forward to seeing more.
