Nintendo donates 50 million yen in relief funds for people affected by the Kumamoto earthquake
They also process repair requests for free from people in the affected regions.
A huge 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit the Kumamoto region in Japan last week, and its personal and material destruction can still be felt today. Same as it happened with Venezuela earlier this summer, we've seen signs of help and solidarity offered to those affected from different parts of the globe, and today we learned about a local gesture that hits close to many of our readers.
Nintendo announced that they will repair consoles and accessories free of charge for those in the affected area. Besides, they're donating 50 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross in relief funds to support the affected individuals.
Here's the official statement:
"We would like to express our deepest sympathies to those affected by the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake. Our company will process repair requests for our products free of charge from people in the regions covered by the Disaster Relief Act relating to the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, until 1 February 2027. Furthermore, to support those affected, we will donate 50 million yen in relief funds through the Japanese Red Cross Society.
