More PlanetSide on the horizon

Sony Online return to the battlefield
Bengt Lemne 12 October 2009

When Planetside first launch many thought it would be the way of the future and that many games would follow in its footsteps blending the addictiveness of a massively multiplayer game with the skills required in a first person shooter. Since then we have been waiting on Huxley to materialise and Zipper Interactive have announced MAG, but otherwise there hasn't been much in the way of the MMOFPS genre.

John Smedly, president of Sony Online Entertainment, talked to Joystiq about the next chapter in the Planetside franchise:

"To me, PlanetSide Next means we get a chance to take the essence of everything that was fun in PlanetSide and make it a lot better ... massive battles on a scale no other FPS will touch ... none of this 64-player stuff ... REALLY MASSIVE."

That sounds... massive. And size is all that matters when it comes down to it. Isn't it?
