Half-Life: Alyx gets a new trailer and March launch window

Valve officially revealed VR game Half-Life: Alyx earlier this week, after reports had already leaked its existence, and now they've revealed that it's available for pre-purchase for $59.99 USD, although it's free for Valve Index VR headset owners.

This is described as a "full-length virtual reality entry in the Half-Life series", and will be coming to Steam in March of next year, compatible with all PC-based VR headsets.

The story takes place between the first and second games, with Alyx Vance and her father Eli resisting the occupation of Earth by The Combine. You play as Alyx in this story, and it's designed with VR in mind, including "all of the hallmarks of a classic Half-Life game" like exploration, combat, puzzles, and a story featuring the iconic characters.

"Everyone at Valve is excited to be returning to the world of Half-Life", says Valve founder Gabe Newell. "VR has energised us. We've invested a lot of ourselves in the technology. But we're also game developers at heart, and to be devoting ourselves to a VR game this ambitious is just as exciting. For that to come in the form of Half-Life feels like the culmination of a lot things we care a lot about: truly great games, cutting edge technology, and open platforms. We can't wait for people to experience this."
