The servers for Dust 514, the free-to-play Playstation 3 shooter, have today migrated into the Eve universe. As CCP described in a recent forum post: players will be migrating from "Singularity to Tranquility" in this ambitious cross-platform experiment.
Eve Online - an MMO with a long and prestigious history - is only available on Windows PC and Mac, whereas Dust 514 is a Playstation only first-person shooter set in the same fictional universe.
Integration will be slow, with some features available later in proceedings. An example of the cautious approach being taken as the two games settle into the same online space is the separation of the financial systems of each game, so as not to upset the balance. As CCP's Nullarbor so eloquently puts it: "It is of course very important that we do not upset the serious business of internet spaceships."
One side effect of the migration will be a character skill reset. Dust 514 remains in closed beta, and CCP are promising that unless something "catastrophic" happens, it'll be the last reset players will have to endure.
