Just last week we reported that Team17 was teasing a new announcement regarding the popular party game Overcooked 2, and now we know that fans can celebrate Chinese New Year.

That's right, as of right now, a free update is available that adds new, kitchens, recipes, chefs, and a whole new game mode. The information was revealed in a post on the game's website whilst being accompanied by a short trailer detailing the event, showcasing all the new content.

So, what exactly does this new update contain? For starters, players will be transported to a new map to take on seven new kitchens, all with a Chinese New Year theme, although beware the dancing dragon. Alongside the new map, players will get to try their hand at two new recipes - the fruit platter and hot pot. To join in with the spirit of the Year of the Pig, players will also be able to play as two new chefs as well, these being the new pig chef and the fiery ornate Chinese Dragon.

The new game mode which will be added is called Survival Mode, which will really put your heart rate to the test as you fight the clock, where the game plan is to survive as long as possible as, serving dishes to add seconds to the timer. Survival Mode will be available to play on all kitchens of the main game, Surf 'n' Turf DLC, and seasonal updates.

Finally, by popular demand, Team17 has added a replay button on the results screen, so now you can jump straight back into the same kitchen if you're really pushing for that high score.

If you have any questions for the development team with regards to the update, be sure to tune into their official livestream on Twitch at 17:00 GMT (18:00 CET).

Will you be trying this Overcooked 2 seasonal event?

"Serving up a second helping of chaotic multiplayer goodness, Overcooked 2 delivers as a worthy successor despite being made from the same ingredients."
