When Borderlands 3 was finally revealed at PAX East last week, we heard about updates coming to other games in the series, and now they've landed alongside a brand new trailer for the third mainline entry.
This includes the launch of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS4 Pro and Xbox One X players able to enjoy 4K Ultra HD and HDR. There are improved lighting, textures, and character models making the game look better on all screens as well.
We get quality of life improvements too, like a mini-map in the style of Borderlands 2, which you can toggle on or off. Improvements to the inventory also allow you to lock weapons or mark them as junk, and items like ammo, money, and health are now automatically picked up.
The SHiFT player rewards program has been introduced as well, meaning you can use Golden Keys to unlock in-game items and rewards. This applies to returning SHiFT users who have played Borderlands 2 or The Pre-Sequel on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, who get 75 free keys as well as two randomly selected new weapons.
For those who like more bang for their buck, a new set of six named, custom-skinned legendary weapons have been added to the arsenal, available for those with Golden Keys and those who beat bosses, and speaking of bosses, the last boss encounter has been changed to make it "more engaging, challenging, and rewarding."
Those who like customisation can now change their Vault Hunter beyond just a colour scheme too, as each of the four characters has new cosmetic heads available from the start of the game.
You can get all of this as a free update if you already own the game on Steam, and on top of this Gearbox and 2K have also released Ultra HD Texture Packs for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on consoles, as well as Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel on PC.
Will you replay the original now it's arrived?
