It seems like we can expect a formal announcement of the Overwatch League being shut down in the coming weeks, as now esports reporter, Jacob Wolf, has published a report that states that teams are will into the process of voting on the league's future and that the OWL is soon set to be dissolved.
Anyone hoping that teams would be interested in keeping the league alive will unfortunately have to head elsewhere to get their competitive Overwatch fix in 2024, as Wolf notes that teams are trending toward taking the $6 million compensation buyout for deciding to axe and kill off the OWL. This will effectively mean that Microsoft will need to bite the bullet and pay out $120 million to the 20 different organisations that made up the OWL.
As for what the future holds for competitive Overwatch, it's mentioned that the Saudi-backed ESL FACEIT Group is being approached to operate and run tournaments from next year, with these negotiations being held even before the vote to dissolve the OWL took place.
