Destiny fans have a lot of changes to look forward to in the coming months, as the Shadowkeep expansion and free version were revealed not too long ago, the former of which will take us to the moon as we experience a brand new adventure.
Finishing moves are another new feature with this expansion, and Bungie's general manager Mark Noseworthy and franchise director Luke Smith have explained more about how these work.
"When enemies get below a certain health threshold, they're going to have an indicator that means they can be finished," Smith said to Polygon, and the system sounds a lot like the orange indicator around enemies in Doom. Players can also add mods to enhance finishers as well ("one of the slots on another piece of armour"), including effects like giving ammunition for your Fireteam, although you will be exposed during the finisher animation.
The cosmetic customisation of the animation is different from elements that alter gameplay, so the two can be tweaked separately.
"We thought of it as combat emotes," said Noseworthy. The Eververse store and rare unlocks will provide cosmetic mods, but gameplay-changing mods are earned by playing, presumably to alleviate fears of these becoming pay-to-win elements.
"At launch, you'll only be able to equip one finisher, but we are working hard on multi-equip for them," adds Smith, with the goal being to add a finishing move randomiser at some point.
Things are still subject to change as finishing moves are still in development, but for now does it sound like a good system?
