Darksiders Genesis "had a little more fun with Strife"

We spoke with Airship Syndicate's CEO and creative director Joe Madureira at E3 about the new game and its heroes.

Stepping away from the traditional third-person action-adventure title and heading toward a more isometric RPG approach, Darksiders Genesis is a game that's also introducing an entirely new character in Strife, and when we spoke with Joe Madureira at E3, the CEO and Creative Director at Airship Syndicate, we asked about this new character specifically.

"So, when it was his turn to be introduced to the series, we knew he would be alongside War. As War is so stoic and serious, we had a little more fun with Strife and we pitched the idea of making him more sarcastic and fun, so to speak and sort of move away from the serious tone of the other Horsemen which has so far been pretty well received. He's a gunslinger, he operates like a twin-stick shooter so in single-player when you switch between War and Strife, which you can do on the fly, it really changes how the game plays," said Madureira.

Strife will be joining War, Death, and Fury as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse working for the Council who bring balance to the world. Throughout Genesis, Strife and War will be hunting down generals of Lucifer, a demon-king who threatens this very balance with plans to unravel all of creation. During the story, players can look to switch between the pair at will, using new abilities and equipment relative to the respective character and making gameplay much more unique.

Darksiders: Genesis is set to launch on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One later this year, although an exact date is yet to be revealed. For the time being, check out our hands-on look at the playable demo at this year's E3.
