With multiplayer games come cheaters, and that's especially true with the battle royale genre. Games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds have been bringing the banhammer down on players who can't play fair, and now in a recent Respawn Check In post on Reddit we've found out that 355,000 players have faced a similar fate in Apex Legends.
These were banned on PC through the Easy-Anti-Cheat system, but there's still work to be done as part of this "ongoing war", Respawn says, adding that they'll need to adapt.
"We are working on improvements to combat cheaters and we're going to have to be pretty secretive about our plans. Cheaters are crafty and we don't want them to see us coming," the developer adds.
As part of this the team are talking with experts to learn about how best to combat cheating, as well as scaling up the anti-cheat team and adding a report feature on PC, which goes straight to Easy-Anti-Cheat.
Elsewhere we also hear about those players who spam during character select and the drop and then disconnect, but the strategy for this is kept under wraps so workarounds can't be developed.
AMD is visiting the studio this week too to help with stability and performance on PC, and in the next patch some crashes will be fixed. In Season 1 improved reporting will be coming as well, which should help with other crashes.
For those asking for a feature that lets you reconnect to a match, there's bad news, as Respawn says they "are currently not pursuing this for a couple reasons." This includes the risk of players abusing it, and the fact they believe resources are better spent on dealing with stability issues so that feature isn't necessary.
Respawn adds that they've also seen reports of slow server performance at the start of the match, but there's no quick fix.
"We've seen these reports and are narrowing down causes and making improvements. If this could be fixed by spending money on faster/more servers we would do it, but unfortunately there is no silver bullet on this one. We're just rolling up our sleeves and digging in. We'll keep you updated on any progress we make," the post explains.
Last week the game got a big Live Balance Update for various areas, and that post details plenty of changes applying to hitboxes, weapons, and more.
