Soul Calibur VI to mix the best of Soul Calibur II and V

We talked with producer Motohiro Okubo about his philosophy going into the game.

We recently got the chance to visit Bandai Namco's Winter Showcase event, during which we spoke with Soul Calibur VI's producer Motohiro Okubo about his own goals with this new entry in the series, and he revealed to us that is has a lot to do with the experience of using the swords.

"So what I want to realise in Soul Calibur VI is that, because I'm the producer of Tekken 7 as well, I want to make sure to show the meaning of using the swords as opposed to using fists," he said via a translator. "So why do you use swords in Soul Calibur? What's fun about it? [This] is something I want to show."

We also asked about what the main changes are between VI and previous entries in the franchise, and here's what Okubo had to say:

"First of all, I thought with Soul Calibur VI that we cannot betray the previous fans of Soul Calibur with radical change in the texture and feeling of playing. If you ask what was changed, maybe I don't have the answer for it, but for what we want to achieve in Soul Calibur VI is to merge the light movement and feel-good aspect of waving the sword around the air from Soul Calibur II with the high-level battle system from Soul Calibur V."

Do you think that this kind of philosophy will turn Soul Calibur VI into a great game?
