The Witcher's fifth and final season no longer expected to launch in 2026

Instead, we'll have to wait until next year to see the end of our journey in the Continent.

The Witcher's fifth and final season has been delayed, without much fanfare. The show, which transported viewers to a fantastical world based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, where a white-haired protagonist fought monsters and men in a quest to save his adopted daughter, has been quite heavily critiqued by fans of the original books and games. Many jumped ship following the departure of Henry Cavill, who had been such a staunch fan of The Witcher prior to his appearance on the Netflix show.

Cavill's Geralt was replaced by one Liam Hemsworth, who chucked on a white wig and leather jacket in Season 4. He will see us out of the series in its fifth season, which was scheduled for release later this year. However, according to What's On Netflix, this is no longer the case, and the show's finale will be delayed until 2027.

Netflix hasn't yet confirmed the delay publicly, though eagle-eyed fans spotted The Witcher had been removed from the 2026 slate. It's believed Netflix already has a pretty full calendar for the rest of this year, and pushing The Witcher's fifth season into 2027 gives more time for the creators to work on post-production, giving us a better send-off for the fantasy show.
