Last month a representative from Bandai Namco reiterated that the upcoming crossover fighting game Tekken X Street Fighter hasn't been cancelled. Despite that, it is obvious from years of silence (it was originally announced 2010) that something hasn't worked according to plan.

Now the producer himself, Katsuhiro Harada, has made an announcement regarding this and clearly states that Tekken X Street Fighter has been put on hold.

"When we develop fighting games, we try to keep the core community in mind as well as the wider audience that wants to play these games. But currently the situation is with fighting games, you have Street Fighter V that just released-a lot of people are playing that fervently-and there's a large crowd out there waiting or Tekken 7. We don't want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release Tekken X Street Fighter is something that's become difficult recently. So it's on hold for the moment."

Tekken 7 still has no official release date, but is expected to launch this year, and considering the long development times of today's AAA titles, don't expect Tekken X Street Fighter anytime soon even if development is resumed.

Tekken X Street Fighter
Tekken X Street Fighter won't be released for a long time, but you can still get a taste of things to come in Tekken 7 where Akuma from Street Fighter has joined the ensemble as a guest character.

Thanks, Gamespot.
