Talking to Bloomberg, Nintendo of America boss, Reggie Fils-Aime, has revealed Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's pre-orders have exceeded those of Mario Kart 8. Trying to explain the reason behind these incredible numbers, the executive said Mario Kart 8 has improved Wii U sales and, as a consequence, the Wii U base is finally growing.

"The launch of Mario Kart 8 has essentially doubled our Wii U sales year-on-year. Our expectation is that the sell-through for Smash is going to be very strong, certainly on par with what we saw with Mario Kart 8. We think the impact on hardware will be similarly dramatic."

Fils-Aime also predicted that Wii U sales could have a further boost thanks to renewed support from third-party publishers, who have in some cases not featured the console in their plans.

"Consumers buy the hardware so they can play the software," he said. "When you have a robust library of games, that's when consumers jump in."

As Nintendo recently reported, Mario Kart 8 has sold 3.5 million copies, so we look forward to seeing the results for the new Smash Bros.
