Russell Westbrook, all-time leader of the triple-double in NBA, announces his retirement

Westbrook achieved 42 triple-doubles in 2016-17, when he was named MVP.

Russell Westbrook, NBA player known for his triple-doubles, has announced his retirement at the age of 37, after 18 seasons. He played his last season at the Sacramento Kings, and before that he played for Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, and for 11 seasons, for the Oklahoma City Thunder (known as the Seattle SuperSonics when he first started in 2008).

Westbrook never won the NBA Championships, but was chosen as MBP in 2017, when he registered 42 triple-doubles during the 2016-17 season.

In total, he achieved 209 triple-doubles (a combination of double-digit number in three of five statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots), the all-time leader in the NBA, ahead of Nikola Jokic, who has achieved 198 (but will still play for a considerable time).

There were four seasons where his averages were already triple-double (31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.6 assists, he also led the league in scoring twice and was named as one of the NBA's 75 all-time greatest players.
