We caught up with franchise creative director Jeremy Vanhoozen to try and gather intel on the upcoming sequel to last year's surprise hit Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.
"When we made the first Garden Warfare for Plants vs. Zombies we really took Plants vs. Zombies as a universe and as a character set and did something new with it," says Vanhoozen. "We let the characters run around on a more open map. We pitted the two sides against eachother in a very new way. It started as a small idea, people reacted very well to the first game. So we kind of built some credibility with that idea to do another one. As we go into the second one we really listened to the fans. What is it that they want? Which is why we're showing our co-op version with the zombies this time on the defense."
Vanhoozen also talked about the new zombie classes revealed for the game, how they're treating progression (this time around even if you're just playing with one class you'll have meaningful progression), content updates, how they're poking fun at others (not laughing at them, but rather with them), the nature of Plants vs. Zombies and more.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is due out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One early next year.
