Paramount boss agrees to release 30 films a year if Warner Bros. deal goes through

While the deal has been delayed quite significantly, Paramount's David Ellison is preparing to please movie theatres if it goes through.

Paramount has confirmed that it will be releasing 30 films a year to movie theatre chains, as fears around cinematic releases dwindling arise following the mega merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. The deal may be on hold while an antitrust trial takes place right now, but Paramount boss David Ellison remains confident that it will go through.

Afterwards, he'll be delivering 30 films a year to movie theatres, according to Bloomberg. Ellison is quite clearly a fan of moviemaking and films, so it's easy to see why he'd support such an agreement. However, even if the written agreement with movie theatre chains will mean we see at least 30 films a year from Warner and Paramount, that doesn't mean they'll all be winners.

There's a concern that smaller, box office duds could be pushed out consistently in order to hit the 30-film milestone. It's not up to a studio to decide how successful a film will be at the box office, but in any case, you wouldn't expect every film among 30 releases to be a big-budget hit. "In my career, G.I. Joe: Retaliation met financial expectations, Top Gun: Maverick exceeded them, and Terminator: Dark Fate fell short. I am proud of all these films, but nobody can dictate what audiences will love. What I can promise is the work, and more of it," Ellison said.
