Activision has announced a new Spider-Man title from developer Beenox, entitled Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
The game will continue to the set up from Shattered Dimensions, letting you control different versions of Spider-Man. Beenox has reportedly listened to fan feedback and jettisoned the Noir and Ultimate versions of the character and focused on the classic modern-day Amazing and the taloned web-slinger from 2099. And in a rather excellent piece of news for fans of the 2099 character, Peter David, the original writer of the Spider-Man 2099 comic, has been drafted on for script duties.
"At Beenox, we are constantly listening to the fans and looking for new and creative ways to innovate the gameplay experience for them," said Dee Brown, Studio Head, Beenox. "We want to create a totally distinct experience in Spider-Man: Edge of Time by working with Peter David on the story and creating this urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance."
You'll criss-cross between the timelines, and the game features a "cause-and-effect" gameplay mechanic, where players will see how the immediate and sometimes unexpected effects of their actions as one Spider-Man changes the timeline of the other Spider-Man.
The game's due this winter. No systems have been listed yet, but we'd imagine PS3 and Xbox 360 are definitely in.
