It wasn't a shark: Giant (and coveted) fish scares bathers on a Marbella beach

As it turns out, it was a tuna in distress, and people helped it back into the water.

It was mistaken for a shark for obvious reasons, but it was a giant tuna. The fish startled bathers at the Playa del Ancón, in Marbella (Málaga, Spain), causing panic as some people rushed out of the water before realising it was not a killer shark, but a disoriented tuna.

As seen on the video below, the animal ended up stranded on the sand and appeared to be injured. According to witnesses, it had a wound near its gills, which was probably caused by fishing gear used much deeper into the sea, while the video shows the huge fish trashing on the beach as people tried to work out how to help.

Beachgoers eventually helped it back into the sea, it has been reported. The incident drew both concern and naturally jokes online, with some users commenting on the tuna's possible value or joking about sushi, but the fish finally returned to the water thanks to help from people on the beach.

"That tuna is worth more than my car", was one of the comments collected by local media.
