Jackie, a bald eagle that had made her way to internet stardom, has sadly died. The eagle was brought into Ojai Raptor Center in California, a rehabilitation organisation after she was attacked by other eagles. Underlying health issues caused Jackie to suffer from amnesia and weight loss.

First hatched in 2012, Jackie was frequently spotted in the Big Bear Valley in California, appearing on the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam consistently with her partner Shadow. The pair had been mates since 2018, according to the Friends of Big Bear Valley website.

"Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists. Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her. We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey, hoped alongside us, prayed for her, and supported the people caring for her," said the Ojai Raptor Center in a statement (via BBC News).

RIP Jackie.
