Horizon and Motorsport are "like a left right punch"

During Gamescom we spoke with Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt about the two racing games that headline the ever-expanding racing series, Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2.

With both games coming under the same Forza label, we asked how the games co-exist. "It's obvious when you look at it this, it's like a left right punch," Greenawalt explained.

"There's different qualities that each game has. One is about precision and accuracy, it's incredibly detailed. And the other one's about freedom and fun and exploration. I think they don't necessarily appeal to different gamers, but they appeal to people who love games and love cars, in different ways."

Greenawalt also had much to tell us about the deal that finally saw Rolls Royce make an appearance in a racing game.

"I do believe that Forza Vista actually played a big part. That level of detail, the incredible level of detail; you can right up close and see even the imperfections of the car."

"That level of craftsmanship I think has gotten the attention of a lot of execs in the car industry," he continued, "and has sort of changed the rules of the game, of what they think a game should be."

"Is a game just about thrashing their car, using it as a weapon or a tool? And we've made a clear statement with Forza Motorsport 5, and even Forza Horizon [2], that no, cars are something to be loved, they're something to be explored with your friends."

Forza Motorsport 5 is already available to buy on Xbox One (and it's rather good), Forza Horizon 2 is heading to Xbox One and Xbox 360 on October 3.
