Grand Theft Auto VI has already made over $50k from leaks, with hundreds of thousands in a crypto wallet

The grift is working, no matter how obvious it is.

With millions of Grand Theft Auto fans waiting for Rockstar to officially unveil and eventually release the next instalment of their beloved series, there are plenty of eyes that can be drawn by leaks, such as the nightmarish ones we've seen over the past few days. As Rockstar is undoubtedly trying to find out how the mysterious hacker Cyberleek is, a user on the GTA Forums has done all they can do figure out just how much money Cyberleek is making from this hack.

User Vice Cit (via Kami) made a massive, two-part post on the GTA Forums, where they divulge that the Cyberleek hack is a meticulously crafted event to drive as much money towards the hacker as possible. All funds trace back to one crypto wallet on the platform KuCoin, which requires ID verification to use.

Through trades with Solana and their own Cyberleek coin, it's believed that the hacker has made about $50,000 thus far. However, they still have a value of around $391,000 in the coin, which is only set to go up as more people buy in to be a part of the leaks.

Cyberleek has said they are fighting for gamers' rights when they've posted leaks, capitalising on the divisions created by Grand Theft Auto VI foregoing physical copies. However, with crypto being at the heart of this hack, it's quite clear where the real motivations lie. To vote on what gets leaked next, Cyberleek requires you to put money into Cyberleek coin, driving the value of the cryptocurrency up.
