God of War was unveiled at Sony's E3 2016 conference and since then it has remained among the most anticipated upcoming games for a lot of people.

In Game Informer's latest cover story, Cory Barlog, game director at Santa Monica, revealed he had some problems convincing Sony to go for another God of War entry, after the previous game's mediocre reception. Shannon Studstill, head of Sony's Santa Monica studio, confirmed to Game Informer that the team was divided when looking to bring back Kratos to life:

"A lot of people throughout the organization wanted [God of War] to sleep and rest," Studstill affirmed.

But as things turned out, the plans were made and we'll see a new take on the angriest man to have ever lived. In the future, Barlog can imagine additional themes and settings for Kratos to explore:

"Moving on, the next mythological belief system he interacts with became the Norse era of God of War. But we may end up going on to the Egyptian era and the Mayan era and so on and so forth."

That, on the other hand, needs a growing audience, Barlog admitted. To expand the franchise the action game has to appeal to more players in general. "I want this to reach a lot of people; I want this to be on the level of the Uncharteds and the Assassin's Creeds. We want to grow this franchise big time," explained Barlog.

How does that sound to you? We have to admit that we like the idea of raiding tombs and fighting against Sobek, Isis, or Anubis in hack 'n' slashy God of War manner...
