God of War breaks many American sales records for April

It's impacted PS4 sales too.
Fabrizia Malgieri 24 May 2018

Through a video posted on YouTube by Mat Piscatella, analyst for consumer market research company NPD, we've learned April 2018's sales figures in the American game market, and as expected, God of War was the best-selling game of that month, also hitting some important records not only for Santa Monica Studio, but also for Sony exclusives in general.

More precisely, Kratos' new Norse adventure now holds the launch month sales record for a PlayStation exclusive, and also proves to be the best launch ever since Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) for this particular month.

It's easy to see that such a success has also had a positive impact on the PlayStation 4's sales, which has reached levels similar to those achieved by the Wii in April 2009, when Nintendo's console had its highest sales. In fact, the PS4 Pro bundle dedicated to God of War was the most-purchased package by American consumers, while the DualShock 4 was the best-selling controller ever, recording its best month ever in April, thanks to the special edition dedicated to Santa Monica Studio's game.

As for the other best-selling games in April 2018, in second place we find Far Cry 5 followed by MLB 18 The Show. Nintendo Labo: Variety Kit enters in fourth place, followed by two other Nintendo games, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, respectively at fifth and sixth place. Below, you can take a look at the full top 10 if you're interested.
