Focus is on story and characters in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

Executive producer Nouredine Abboud explained that, while Wildlands was about the world, this is about the characters within it.

We recently attended a preview event for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint in which we caught up with executive producer Nouredine Abboud, and during this time we asked about the shift of focus with Breakpoint towards the more rugged and realistic elements.

"With Wildlands we were focusing on the land, and so bringing the open world inside the Ghost Recon franchise," he explained. "With Breakpoint, we wanted to be at the same level of quality for the character itself. We had a feeling we were very successful with Wildlands with the open world; we had a feeling we could be better about how you feel being a Spec Ops. And so when we were brainstorming we were like 'what are the cool things we could have the Ghosts do?', and we had a feeling, we never did a Ghost Recon game where the Ghosts, they don't have a briefing, they're in a very difficult situation, and so this is where we came up with Breakpoint."

"I don't think people are fully realising how different Breakpoint is from Wildlands because, yes we're keeping the PvP even if it's coming at launch, yes we're keeping the co-op, yes we're keeping the open world, but this is just the first layer. What we're doing with the characters, what we're doing with the story and the cinematics, what we're doing with progression is very new."

He also told us that the teammates have been removed so that you feel alone in the world, but that "when the teammates come back, they come back in a situation where it makes sense for the gamers", and that even more ambitious updates are coming after launch too.
