Fallout 76's E3 presentation was full of surprises

What's the fallout from this going to be?
Roy Woodhouse 11 June 2018

In a presentation complete with Vault-tec videos to guide us through through the troubled wasteland, Fallout 76 was announced as the prequel to all of the other titles in the series.

Coming out on the November 14 this year on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Bethesda's Todd Howard confirmed that players will be able to play Fallout 76 as a single-player experience but added that things really get going when other people are involved. Rather than the 100-player battle royale style some people feared, you will play along with dozens, not hundreds of other former vault-dwellers. Every character of Vault 76 will, therefore, be a real person, and not AI-controlled.

Stemming from a four-year-old idea where every character was real, we were promised a new online experience. It will be set in the hills of West Virginia and focus on the folklore of the area, which should add to a more complete experience on a map that is claimed to be four times bigger than that of Fallout 4.

There will also be a collector's edition featuring: a glow in the dark map, figures to place on said map, and a T-51 wearable power armour helmet. We have been told that the rendering will be incredible and that we'll be able to see weather events on the horizon, and the footage shown supported all of that.

Acknowledging glitches of the past and typical problems with online games, a beta version will be coming our way. To finish up on this night of announcements, Fallout Shelter, the mobile title, is out now on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
