Last Wednesday Nintendo announced that they would have their very last Super Smash bros. focused Nintendo Direct on the December 15. At that time they only revealed that they would talk more about Cloud coming to the game. But we got so much more.
The broadcast started with the announcement of Corrin, the main character from Fire Emblem Fates, becoming a playable character in february. As the case will be in the Fire Emblem game, you can choose to play as either male or female versions of the character. They will both play exactly the same and with the Blood of Dragon Fang coursing through their body they'll be able to transform into a dragon. Some attacks will transform parts of your body, others the entire body. If you prefer fighting as a human you'll be using the Yato sword.
Corrin's Final Smash is called Torrential Roar and creates a cyclone of water that pulls in nearby enemies before delivering a final blow.
The DLC won't include a new stage, but you'll get two new songs, Lost in Thoughts All Alone and a remix. Buying the 3DS version also gets you trophies of Ryoma and Xander.
The the previously announced Cloud part of the show then kicked off. He's available right now and has two costumes; his traditional outfit from Final Fantasy VII and two versions based on Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
Using his iconic Buster sword you'll hear classic sound effect from FFVII. They have also implemented Cloud's Limit Break. A meter will gradually fill up, and when full you can activate it to boost his stats for a short time. Omnislash also makes a return as his devastating multi-hit Final Smash.
Contrary to Corrin's expansion, this one includes a new stage. Here you'll be fighting in Midgard, a three-platform stage with the Mako Reactor in the background. The stage also has a unique twist to it. Once in a while summons material will appear, and the first player to obtain it will summon one of the iconic creatures. Depending on the summon the stage may change in a variety of ways, or it'll attack your enemies. One of the examples they showed was Ifrit setting light to the ground and tilting the stage in different directions.
Then it was time for the second character announcement, the winner of the worldwide polls. And the fan favourite was... drumroll please... Bayonetta. She'll be available at the same time as Corrin and buying her let's you choose between a long- or short-haired version.
One of her most interesting abilities activates when you perfectly dodge attacks. Then players who were dodged will slow down, and the higher their damage the longer the effect. Of course repeated use decreases its duration so players won't be able to spam the ability.
Her Final Smash is called Infernal Climax, and summons the gigantic Gomorrahdemon that hangs over the stage. Then the player must try to smash enemies into its mouth for massive damage.
The new stage included in the DLC is a version of the introduction area from Bayonetta called The Umbra Clocktower. Here you'll be fighting on pieces of buildings flowing through space-time.
If this doesn't sound interesting we also got to see some new costumes for your Mii Fighter. Two of these, Chocobo Hat and Geno, are available right now. The others, including Tails and Knuckles from the Sonic series, will come in february.
