Eve: Valkyrie and Gunjack are two titles from CCP Games. Gunjack is a VR title built for mobiles and Eve: Valkyrie is a VR game made for more powerful devices. Eve: Valkyrie is already available for Oculus Rift and will be available for PSVR. We had a chat with the CEO of the Icelandic developer/publisher, Hilmar Veigar Petursson, about these games:
"Eve: Valkyrie has been in development in development since 2012 and we brought it to market with the Oculus Rift. Now our huge focus for the game is preparing for the release of PSVR and now we have now being kind of in the process of updating the game on the Rift and preparing for PSVR. Now in October we're getting off a really big moment, where we bring it to PSVR. We do massive updates across the board and we allow cross-play between the two platforms, which will be the first time that's ever been done in VR. Then after that we're going to bring the game to the HTC Vive. The hopefully by the end of the year we'll be in a place to allow cross-play between all three platforms.
Gunjack is a very different proposition than Eve: Valkyrie, even if it is set in the Eve universe and is a space shooter.
"Due to our position on Valkyrie, we got talking to a lot of the people that were thinking about bringing other platforms there and it became clear that Mobile VR was going to be a thing. There you can't really at this point in time weld multiplayer and high-end graphics at the same time, it's just going to eat up your battery and burn out your phone. So okay we have to do a different game. We definitely want to lead the front when it comes to production quality. So then we thought okay, space. Our already existing assets are extremely high-end, so we found a way to get it preform on Mobile VR. We have a phenomenal team in Shanghai that cracked the code on that. We were able to take AAA production values on to Mobile VR, we have to sacrifice multiplayer at least at this point in time. Here's an interesting hack we can do to jump into that without breaking the bank and we've been phenomenally impressed with the results. Gunjack has been number one seller on the Gear VR platform since it came out which by extension makes it the number one selling virtual reality game in the world."
Gunjack is available on Samsung Gear VR, Oculus, HTC Vive and PSVR.
Eve: Valkyrie is available on Oculus, PSVR and will hit HTC Vive by the end of the year.
