Total War: Warhammer II is about to let slip the dogs of war on PC, and so we thought it timely to take a closer look at our Gamescom interview with lead writer Andy Hall, who had plenty to tell us about the story side of the Creative Assembly's fantasy epic.

We talked about the humour in the game, the various factions, the overall story, and more, but one of the things we touched upon was putting the player in their own story.

"We try to fill the maps with [...] these little narrative points through lost ruins, encounters at sea, and stuff like that," Hall explained. "But at the same time, I want this still to be the player's story primarily, you know. If it's a historical Total War the whole idea is you create your own story, it's your tale, and that's still very much the case with Warhammer II. I want people to feel like they're actually in a Warhammer novel and they're playing out their part how they want, but there's also this greater narrative that they can interact with."
