Breakpoint's 'time-saver' microtransactions gone "for now"

Ubisoft admits those spotted online were an "error" and shouldn't have been included, but they might return.

Earlier this week some of the first players into Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, via the early access afforded by the Ultimate Edition for example, spotted microtransactions in the game for elements like skill points, which could beef up your warrior in no time at all. These were later removed, but Ubisoft has now talked openly about these elements.

"We are aware that during the Early Access of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint on October 1, some Time-Savers items (skill point bundles, XP boosters, [and] parts bundles for advanced weapon upgrades) were available for purchase for a few hours in our store, but this was not our intention and was an error on our behalf," Ubisoft clarified to PCGamesN.

It seems as if the aim of these items was to help players come into the game later in its life, so they can have powerful characters to get level with their friends, for example.

"These items were designed as an optional way for players arriving later to the game (post-launch) to catch up with those who have been playing for longer and enjoy our co-op and challenging end-game experiences. These Time-Savers have since been removed from our store for now," Ubisoft adds.

"Time-Savers were not designed to grant any advantage over players choosing not to use them. Additionally, Ghost War PvP has been carefully balanced to ensure that no matter your experience as a player, no one has a critical advantage based on their progression."

For those wondering, the PvP Ghost War mode has everything leveled out so that it's reliant on your skill rather than gear or character upgrades, so don't worry about pay-to-win elements, although fans have understandably been left confused about all of this. Ubisoft insists, however, that there are still plenty of ways for you to upgrade yourself in-game.

Are you glad to see them gone?
