Amnesia sells 200,000 copies

Digital PC sales are healthy
Bengt Lemne 10 January 2011

Swedish indie developers Frictional Games find themselves in an unusual and pleasant position following great sales of the PC only release Amnesia: The Dark Descent. In speaking with Strategy Informer the developer stated the game has gone on to sell 200,000 copies so far after recording 40,000 sales in its first month. Key to the success was a Steam sale that saw the price of the game reduced by 75 per cent.

"The sales that we have had (and are having) are more than enough to motivate developing a game with the PC as the main (and even only) platform."

"Based on what we have seen, the online PC market is just getting bigger and bigger, and we are convinced we are far from the end of this growth. We think that other developers that consider making their game exclusive to a console might want to think again." Frictional Games' Thomas Grip told Strategy Informer.

Frictional Games is a small independent developer that are best known for their work on the Penumbra series and most recent release Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is one of the finalists for the grand prize at Independent Games Festival in February.
