In Breakpoint "the narrative really drives the action"

Writer Emil Daubon joined us at E3 to talk about the world Ubisoft has created, including the story that we'll be experiencing.

We got to try Ghost Recon: Breakpoint at E3 this year, and during our time with Ubisoft we also got to chat with writer Emil Daubon to hear about what's new this time around, including the world of Aurora that we'll be exploring.

"The environments are wonderfully varied," he told us. "The beauty of creating a fictional setting is that it gave us unlimited license to create physical landscapes to engage with. We have a variety of terrain, exciting terrain, that you have to navigate in order to achieve your objectives, everything from beaches to deserts to mountains, there's a volcano, and the beauty of this fictional setting is that we can expand on it as we see fit. So as ideas come in, we want to expand, open new terrain, new environments - we have complete freedom to do so."

Ubisoft hasn't been shy in showing off the story with this entry too, as we'll be taking on former Ghost Cole D. Walker as he leads his army of 'Wolves' against us. We were told in the presentation before the demo that there will be lots of cutscenes to help deliver the story, and we asked Daubon about this too:

"As a writer of course I rely heavily on the narrative, and the narrative really drives the action. There's a really concise story arc, but the beauty of it is it's not presented to you - you have to engage with it. The cutscenes are just another way we help to develop the characters, establish the context, give the player more of a feel of really being immersed in that world, so as they uncover mysteries, they feel more connected to the experience."

Below the interview you can hear Sam talk about his time in Breakpoint, and his impressions of the game. Is the story important to you in a Ghost Recon game?
