Adam Bhatti: PES' Edit File is great, but licenses still key

Adam Bhatti talked to us about the feature at Gamescom.

It's no secret that Pro Evolution Soccer as a franchise has far fewer licenses than its competitor, FIFA, and although this has improved in recent years with licenses such as Barcelona and Liverpool, the Edit File option is still the best way to get as authentic an experience as possible in PES. This is something we asked about when we talked to PES' Global Product and Brand Manager Adam Bhatti at Gamescom, and he said that, while it's a good feature, licenses are still key.

"Yeah, I think it's up to us to make sure that the game keeps improving and keeps becoming something that you just can't ignore, and you know the experience of the game needs to be such that you want to go and learn about it in every possible way, and I think that's our duty - to make sure that people are playing the game and the experience is out of this world, and then they go out and seek it," he explained.

"In my opinion, I believe that everyone who plays PES knows it, you know, the majority of people, and PES is a game that's very successful. If we weren't successful we wouldn't be here every year. We had Marco Reus and Aubameyang turn up because they heard I was here, they wanted to meet me [laughs], but they were on the stage, and they played the game, and they were fantastic, they know how to play PES. People know PES, people play PES, and I think it's really important for us to make sure that as many people as possible who maybe experience PES for the first time, find this information easily, and understand 'oh wow, so it's not really a big deal, and I can do it'."

"But at the same time, listen, I've got a brother-in-law who's a lot younger, he's very superficial, he's probably watching this right now and laughing, but he just wants everything on the disc, he doesn't care, he's lazy [...] and he just wants to go, and he just wants to put everything on the disc, and we have to respect that, that is actually the way it is. And that's why we have to make sure that we're signing licenses."

"The Edit File option [...] is a great opportunity, and I'm really happy that we have it. We're gonna keep that in and we're gonna keep it easy to use and everything like that, but we do need to make sure that we're signing licenses, and make sure people know that that aspect is also very important to us as well."

Do you mind putting the files onto the game yourself, or would you much rather have those already on the disc?
