Nintendo 3DS works well

We tried it at the Nintendo conference

The Nintendo 3DS will also have a gyro and motion sensing as well as dual cameras than can take 3D pictures.

Nintendo 3DS was revealed at the Nintendo E3 Press Conference this morning (local time). With a slightly larger 3D enabled upper screen, the device is very similar to its little brother Nintendo DS in appearance. It does, however, feature more powerful processor than its predecessor (no surprise there). The lower screen is a touch screen, but it does not feature 3D capabilities as Nintendo found that touch screen and 3D did not mix well.

When we got our hands on the short tech demo the 3D effects were immediately apparent and it worked wonderfully. It took half a second for the eyes to adjust as you used the slider to turn the 3D effect up and down. The effect is only present when you look straight at the handheld device (not from the side), but it really isn't an issue as this is how you would hold the 3DS anyway. The general impression from the crowd was one of awe at how well it worked.

The announcement of Kid Icarus: Uprising and several huge third party franchises like Resident Evil, Saints Row, Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear Solid and Kingdom Hearts also brought cheers from the Nintendo faithful who had gathered at the Nokia Plaza. However, Nintendo were not forthcoming with hard details in terms of release date and price. It would seem that Nintendo 3DS is not quite ready for launch.
