Epic on the future of Paragon

We had a chat with executive producer John Wasilczyk about the new MOBA.

We recently spoke to John Wasilczyk, executive producer of Epic Games' new MOBA Paragon, about the future of the game and what they are planning moving forward.

Paragon is currently in early access, but that hasn't stopped Epic Games from keeping it constantly updated, no small feat, on console in particular. It seems that the game will continue to see regular updates with Wasilczyk saying that "one of the things we are really excited about working on a live game is rolling out updates every single week and launching new heroes every three weeks".

One of the most recent updates has brought with it a new hero, Khaimera, who Wasilczyk described as a "duelist melee brawler" and went on to say: "What excites people, to see people do is experiment with his kit and see how it changes team play, so he has a lot of sustainabilty and he has some engagement abilities that allow him to leap into action and start fights and still be able to stick it out". (You can see more of Khaimera in the video down below.)

Paragon now has 18 heroes in its roster and Wasilczyk stated that they will be "rolling out more every three weeks" which will undoubtedly help to keep the game fresh for fans.

With Paragon currently in early access it seems like Epic Games are taking community feedback very seriously and this is helping to shape the final game. When asked about the future of Paragon and the addition of the teleport ability, Wasilczyk had this to say:

"One of the things we think is going to be a constant is change, so we're taking a look at how people play the game and how we can provide them with more strategies and more meaningful choice and that's part of how we're adjusting the way that players travel around the map and we're going to see as we roll out new updates what sort of strategies develop and continue changing it to make it really compelling".

Wasilczyk also said that the game will have meaningful choices adding different dimensions to play and giving players the choice to play characters based on their own play style saying: "We think what makes MOBA's so engaging is that there is no one right way to play it, and the game is always changing and evolving and that to us is sort of the core of what meaningful choice means".

The first phase of the beta will be coming out in May on PS4 and PC and will include cross-play between the two.
