Despite Russia being the instigator of the ongoing conflict happening in eastern Europe and in Ukraine, the country is not finding the battle to be as easily won as expected. The war has now been ongoing for four years, and it's partly thanks to other nations around the world who have been keen to support Ukraine with resources and weaponry so it can continue to fight back against Russia's aggression.
However, this support hasn't gone unnoticed by the Russian government, who is now turning its attention to the United Kingdom following British-made drones being used in strikes orchestrated by Ukraine on Russian territory.
In a new statement from the Russian Embassy to the UK, as per BBC News, Russia has promised the UK "will pay" for its actions and will face "consequences" for its continued involvement in the conflict.
Russia accuses the UK of "deliberately opting for an escalation of the Ukraine crisis", something it goes on to claim "the United Kingdom is acting as an accomplice and co-perpetrator of the bloody crimes and terrorist attacks". This all means Russia is promising "London's actions will inevitably carry consequences for which it will have to answer" and that continued involvement will lead to "the higher the price it will pay".
As expected, this caused the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) to share a statement of its own, where it explicitly replied with: "Russia should be in no doubt about the resolve of this Government to stand against Russian aggression, in Ukraine and against the UK and our allies."
The spokesperson at the MoD went further to reaffirm the UK's support of Ukraine, adding it was "committed to providing the equipment Ukraine needs to defend itself against [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's illegal invasion".
