Take-Two CEO explains why Grand Theft Auto VI pre-order numbers haven't been revealed yet

In case anyone was wondering, it's certainly not because they're lower than expected.

Last week, Take-Two held its latest financial earnings call. In the days before, it was confirmed when we'd finally be getting a substantial look at Grand Theft Auto VI, but already people had been putting in their pre-orders for a game we've seen two trailers from.

How many people have pre-ordered the game? We don't know exactly, as Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick doesn't want to share the figure yet. As he told Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, it's mostly due to the fact that the company doesn't know how to interpret the figures it's seeing. "The massive demand for preorders we've seen to date could reflect a pull forward of sales that otherwise would materialize in the fullness of time," Zelnick said, adding that "the raw numbers could potentially be misleading," because of how they might impact future sales.

What Zelnick's saying is Take-Two doesn't want to reveal pre-order numbers right now, because they might impact the sales figures down the line, essentially. They might make the massive demand at launch look a bit less impactful, as so many people have already bought their copies.

Either way, we can probably expect GTA news to slow down for a little bit, at least until two weeks from today, when Rockstar gives us that extended look at the game.
