Danish tennis player Holger Rune has confirmed that he still intends to participate at the US Open, despite some recent reports that he had withdrawn from the upcoming Grand Slam at the end of the month. "I see conclusions on me withdrawing from US Open. I did not withdraw. I am working super hard everyday and as soon as I am ready, I am ready. I hope it will be US Open", Rune said on X.
Rune has been absent since October last year, after suffering an Achilles tendon injury. He was once World No. 4 and was in the top ten last year, but his injury means he has dropped to World No. 99 and has been inactive all season.
It was the 23 year old himself who caused the confusion, as he seemed to confirm to Andy Roddick on his podcast, Served, that he would not appear at the US Open when he said that "I'm missing those final performance details, but I should be fine in the coming weeks or next month.". In the podcast he explained that his rehabilitation is going well, and now it is more about getting ready to compete again.
