Next month marks the premiere of Season 38 of The Simpsons, a series that debuted in 1989 but actually existed a few years before that as a segment on The Tracey Ullman Show. It's been going strong ever since, and virtually the entire cast is still involved, so Bart, Lisa, and of course Homer sound exactly as we'd expect.
But... it has to end sometime, and there's been plenty of speculation about when that will be. Now, a theory has emerged from someone with better insight than most of us: Nancy Cartwright. When asked directly by the host how long she thinks The Simpsons will air, she answered "40," referring to Season 40, which is how long Fox has renewed the series under the latest contract.
When she was then asked if she was really sure about this bombshell scoop, she replied simply: "That's my opinion." However, that doesn't mean she'll leave the show herself if it continues beyond that point. Shortly afterward, she explained that "we'll keep going" as long as everyone is alive and wants to continue making the show.
Whether Cartwright is right, we'll likely find out in a year or two. Nevertheless, much suggests that the series will continue for at least a little while longer. Many of the voice actors, however, are already quite old, such as 82-year-old Harry Shearer (Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Skinner, and others), and it remains to be seen how the series' creators will handle this.
