On the back of the news that Eidos were disappointed in sales of Tomb Raider: Underworld (with a 25% fall in their stock as a result) Joystiq reports that 30 people have been laid off at developer Crystal Dynamics.

Eidos issued the following statement: "We have increased the focus on the Tomb Raider franchise at Crystal Dynamics, regrettably this has resulted in the reduction in headcount."

Perhaps Crystal Dynamics were working on a non-Tomb Raider project that has now been axed along with the people working on it. Perhaps something along the lines of a new Legacy of Kain title?

Eidos have also suggested that the next Tomb Raider will see a redesign of heroine Lara Croft.
